Here is part 2.
Time for the auction. Penelope goes to the backdoor and her contact is there. She enters the auction and takes a look around. She does not really recognize anyone as of yet and goes and looks at the Dresden Diamond (which is one of five relics that are up for auction). She sees they are in cages with bars and what looks like a fairly advanced security system. She also recognizes Dr. Methuselah, which is more than a little disconcerting.
The Darkness and Malizma both get in the rooftop exit and it takes them into what looks like a storage area. They both try to sneak around the Louvre. The group gets split up because when Malizma started to sneak, for some reason he did it with such an overzealous flair that The Darkness just left him. I compelled don’s “overly theatric” aspect. They head in different directions trying to find the auction.
Meanwhile, Penelope sits down at the auction and lo and behold, her nemesis Ivanna Killemall is also at the action. I compelled her quest for vengeance aspect, but she paid a point to ignore it. Biting down her anger, she somehow managed to not run over and kill the woman that murdered her fire. She also noticed that she kept looking over her should at another woman standing in the back (with four nazi thugs guarding her). She had made an alertness roll.
The Darkness finds a room and investigates. There is a glass pane that overlooks the auction (he knows this after wiping it off and looking). The auction is in full force. He needs a plan, and comes up with one!
Malizma find a room outside of the auction as well, but it is on the lower level. He sits there and thinks of his own plan, and comes up with one.
The auction starts and the other relics go. Finally the bidding starts and after a few exchanges (in which Penelope is outbid) it is down to Dr. Methuselah and the woman that Ivanna kept looking back at (the woman had stormed up and taken the bidding away from Ivanna). Eventually, the woman won the auction and stood there in triumph.
The Darkness took this time to implement his plan. He took a running jump and dove through the window, and he had lit two sticks of dynamite (both with short fuses) and threw them in to two separate corners of the auction. He made his weapons roll with the help of his “kaboom! Mayhem makes a lot of noise” aspect. He landed hard just as the two sticks of dynamite went off. He took a consequence of twisted ankle for the 40 foot fall.
Unfortunately for Penelope, she happened to be on the side of the auction that the dynamite went off of. She attempted to dive clear. She had to make a roll to hide against something solid, against the force of the explosion. The roll was legendary, and she did not come close. The explosion went off and Penelope was badly injured. Dawn was taken out of the game by this and although it was kind of funny, everyone was in a kind of shock that Henry did what he did. Other people were also caught in the blast.
Malizma, seeing this, broke the glass and used his stage magic to put smoke in the room. He actually used his stunt stage magic and his aspect “abracadabra” aspect. He then entered the room and attempted to head towards the diamond, but there was no visibility.
The Darkness tried to get to his feet. I again compelled Henry’s “cloud the mind of men” aspect. I said that in his pain, he would not be able to think clearly. He again paid the point to ignore the compel.
The woman that had won the auction pulled out a device that looked like a fan and began to make her way to the gem. The darkness caught up with her. He used his “nick of time” aspect. They then raced to the gem, with the woman getting there first. It was an athletics vs. athletics roll which the woman won because I invoked her “where theirs smoke” aspect.
Penelope was still conscious and tried to reach her comrades through the wrist communicator (although the Darkness lost his again when it broke on the fall). Malizma heard this and went to find her. They hear men yelling outside saying they are there looking for a fire. Don spent a fate point to say the fire dept was on its way.
The woman reached the diamond first and smashed the glass. As she grabbed the diamond, the darkness attacked her. She shrugged off the attack and with the gem in hand, rose in the air and flew to the ceiling. With a flick of her wrist she blew a hold in the ceiling and flew through it, much to the Darkness’s dismay. A second later she flew back hovered at the opening and taunted the group saying that the next time they met Baroness Blackheart, they would truly perish.
The scene ends with Malizma getting Penelope into a carriage to take her to the hospital, and the Darkness being confronted by a known member of the Century Club, The Grey Ghost. Eleven people perished in the explosion and many others were badly injured (including one of his comrades). The Darkness was taken in custody by a group of men.
That is where we ended.
