So I went to see the United 93 movie (with Cheyenne Jackson) yesterday and it was…a very moving tribute to those that lost their lives on September 11th. I won’t lie and say that it was easy to watch because it may have been the hardest movie I will ever sit through. But it was well put together and you could really feel the panic and desperation that was felt by everyone on the plane as well as on the ground trying to make sense out of what was going on. I don’t think that it is the kind of thing that we will ever really understand but at least now we know the reasons behind the insanity and tragedy, even if we don’t understand. There was no “lead” storyline, no “star” of the movie…it was a true ensemble with each and every character reaching out and touching you.
I hope that the movie is well received and serves as a starting point for Cheyenne’s movie career (or more Broadway roles whichever he would prefer). I feel like this is going to be the kind of movie that makes more money on the back end (with DVD sales and rentals) than it will in the theaters. I think that it is/was a very hard movie to sit through and I wouldn’t be surprised if most people wait and watch it in the privacy of their own homes with their loved ones close by. Or if they wait a few years and then say “okay I think I am ready now”…not that you can ever really be ready for a movie like this. I don’t think that it will ever stop hurting or affecting us as Americans, but time does heal all wounds and it will make it easier (not easy…that will never happen) to see a movie like this.
If you think that you can handle this flick I recommend it 110%. It was well done and it was a touching and moving tribute to the survivors and their family members that gave up their lives to save the lives of others. It just shows that we will NEVER FORGET!
