An annoying customer and her daughters, plus payment!

I have a headache. I just got home from work and somehow I don't think that is going to help me allievate it. (Though it is some.)

Tonight I had a customer who is probably going to leave a nasty customer comment. And I was just doing my job.

This lady was shopping with her seventh grade daughters for school shoes. And she was ticked off at them to begin with. But after messing up my floor and trying to follow me into my stock room the two girls finally eached picked out a pair of shoes.

Now a side note before I continue. As we change names and merge with another company everyone who had our old card was given a new account number and card with the new company. And when they get their new card (which is where we are now in the process) the first time they use it they need their driver's license to verify that they did recieve the right card and that the card is with the right person. (Hey, people do steal mail.)

So back to this lady and her daughters. She goes to pay with her new card. I swipe the card and then, at the prompt, ask to see her driver's liscence. (By the way, in the letter they sent with the cards they stated that they would need their driver's liscence the first time they used it.) She doesn't have it. So I ask if she has another form of payment. She then rattles off her driver's liscence number, which I cannot take verbally. And then she just gets this really ticked off facial expression and askes me if I can hold them so no one will buy them. Which I do.

This lady gave the impression that she was really ticked off at me. Which means she is more likely to give a customer comment. But what could I do? I was doing my job. I did everything I could do and that did not please her. It is for her credit's safety that I could not take the verbal driver's liscence number. I don't think there is anything else I could have done. But that doesn't change the fact that she was mad at me. I just hope I'm not there when she does come to pay for the shoes. And I hope Kristen does not write my name on the receit. (We're suppose to do that now.)

Argh, retail is beginning to drive me crazy. Anyone hiring out there?
