So, why do books get new covers?
There are many reasons, but in this case it was because booksellers were concerned that the cover looked like a paranormal romance, when the story is not, in fact, a paranormal romance. This story is a bit hard to classify, but I would call it an Off Planet Fantasy Fairy Tale Retelling. It takes place on another planet--a sentient planet that is a character in the book--ruled by magic. It's also a fairy tale retelling and a romance, but not a paranormal one. And so the cover designers at Delacorte went to work and came up with something fresh that still has a bit of the old cover's flavor.
I hope you all dig it, and thank you to everyone who has "Waiting on Wednesday-ed" this book and helped build excitement for the release. This story means a lot to me, and more than any book I've written thus far, I'm hoping it finds an audience and is enjoyed by my readers.
And now...
Of Beast and Beauty's new cover:
About the Book:
In the beginning was the darkness, and in the darkness was a girl, and in the girl was a secret...
In the domed city of Yuan, the blind Princess Isra, a Smooth Skin, is raised to be a human sacrifice whose death will ensure her city’s vitality. In the desert outside Yuan, Gem, a mutant beast, fights to save his people, the Monstrous, from starvation. Neither dreams that, together, they could return balance to both their worlds.
Isra wants to help the city’s Banished people, second-class citizens despised for possessing Monstrous traits. But after she enlists the aid of her prisoner, Gem, who has been captured while trying to steal Yuan’s enchanted roses, she begins to care for him, and to question everything she has been brought up to believe.
As secrets are revealed and Isra’s sight, which vanished during her childhood, returned, Isra will have to choose between duty to her people and the beast she has come to love. (Click the cover to learn more.)
Thanks again everyone! Have a lovely week.
