I've already offset the balance of the day by sleeping in. I might as well waste a little more time writing this. I've been so busy lately that it feels like every hour of the day counts. In some ways, that's nice. I feel a little less adrift. These are the things between which I divide my time:
I'm taking three regular classes, which has always proven to be the maximum capaxcity for me as a grad student. These classes are pretty much enough to kick my ass. They all seem more intense than the other classes that I've taken. It may be because I've decided to take them more seriously. On top of them, I'm also doing an independent study on Tom Robbins. He's exciting and wonderful, but the challenge of the class is to make him seem that he belongs in academia. It's less about re-reading his books and writing what I think about them, and more about me trying to get him some of the credibility he deserves. Yesterday, I got his newest book in the mail, which is exciting. Wild Ducks Flying Backward is a collection of his short writings. I'm hoping on some insight from them.
I'm working at Mary's Deli now. The people that work there are fun to be around. it's different form other food service jobs I've had in terms of enjoyment. What's the one thing it has in common with the others? Minimum wage. I'm also subbing again, whic will probably start picking up regularly real soon. I may or may not get a third job at a Doggy Day Care if Johnny Law doesn't shut it down before I get a chance to work my first night sleeping in a basement with ten uncaged dogs. Why would the law not like that idea?
Because I've never participated in anything extracurricular, and feel that now's the time to start, I've put a cartoon in The Leader, so I can join the ranks of the unfunny and unreknowned. It's called "Balonaphobia" and it starts this Monday. I hope it comes out alright.
