It makes me sad when friends bash each other. Arguing is good. Bashing is bad. Even if it is all in good fun, you just don't bash your friends when it comes to politics and religion. That seems fair. I too share your frustration with the ways people (especially the press) are urging us to go back to normal and for us to be a united country again. In my mind, that is ignoring the real problem at hand which is that things are not ok in this country. What are things? Take your pick. The Republicans have won and that is the reality of the situation. They are 5 votes short and being able to steamroller any filabuster that comes to the floor in the Senate and unless the Democrats can band together (which they haven't shown they can do), Bush and the Republicans will be responsible for all change over the next 4 years.

The attitude I would like the people to send the Republican government is this: You do not have a mandate for your actions. You won the election, great, but your work is far from over. You must produce the results we want and if you don't, we will punish you with impeachment or not re-electing you.

Other than encouraging responsible leaders to run for public office and then voting them in, I am not really sure what more we can do.
