New York Trip.. Part 1: The way there

Sep 22, 2004 23:35

It all started at 12:15 when I left my house for the train station... with a quick stop at Wendy's which is in the opposite direction. After getting to Union Station in Worcester, MA I hung out around the tracks waiting for the train as there was no one at the window and a sign that said you can buy tickets on the train... except you really cant. So anyway I see someone who worked at the station and went to ask him if the train was delayed (as it was almost 1:00 and the train was supposed to be there for 12:48), he told me it was behind by about 15 minutes and should be arriving soon and asked if i had my tickets ready, which I didn't so he sold me some.

I was supposed to arrive in Albany at 4:45.. but we were delayed and I didn't arrive till 6:30, which should have worked out for the best.. except Glenn 1). Didn't know I was actually coming up 2). his cell phone wasn't working as Verizon charged him lotsa money for their mistake 3). Ended up working till 9:30. After hanging around the train station for 2 1/2 hours and racking up $7.50 in pay phone calls I decided to catch a cab out to RPI and try my luck in finding Glenns frat house. So armed with the little knowledge I had... that his frat was Sig Ep.. I set out, met a security guard and asked him to direct me to the house.. he told me S.A.E, Sigma Alpha Epsilon was a mile and a half off campus, I think "oh great". I continue to walk around and see a group of four kids whom I ask "How do I get to SigEp?" Thankfully these kids know more than the security guards, stupid rent-a-pi..err..cop, and ask me "Which one", then add "Whats the full name" after they see the bewildered look on my face. It turns out there is Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Phi Epsilon. S.A.E is a mile and a half away.. Sigma Phi Epsilon is at the end of the block. Still not knowing what place I need to go to (as i didnt know the full name), I ask.. no word of a lie.. "Which house is better known for drinking or partys?" they all look at each other, trying not to laugh and in unison they all say "Sigma Phi Epsilon". But this is not where my adventure ends.. I walk up to the door and knock, a guy answers and says "Can I help you?" giving me a kind of strange look.. the rest of the conversation follows:
Me: "Hi... Do you know Glenn W."
Him: "yeaaah...."
Me: "Does he live here?"
Him: "yeaaah...."
Me: "Is he here?"
Him: "Maaybe..."
Me: "Well im his friend from Mass.. and I think he forgot to pick me up at the train station"
Him: "Oh.. well follow me.. I'll check"
So I explain how, despite the fact that I know none of them and am totally unexpected, Im going to be crashing there for the night, met Glenns roommate, and finally got to talk with Glenn.
