Who Cares About Fate? Write Your Own Ending

❖   Rule the first:  Dante is TERRIBLE at putting things together from scratch.  He sucked at puzzles, always lost LEGO pieces, etc.  That's one of the main reasons why Dante tends to lean to the "If it doesn't work, get a bigger hammer" approach.  However, he can recognize shoddy craftsmanship when he sees it.  That's how he managed to get Ebony and Ivory, by criticizing each firearm the gun shop had for sale, attracting the attention of Nell Goldstein, and from there, they entered their little deal.

❖   Dante's meeting with Enzo was pure coincidence; he'd stumbled in on the scene of Enzo killing a few demons for a job.  Enzo recognized exactly what kind of being he had on his hands and who said being was related to, so he immediately offered to teach Dante how to become a demon hunter.  Dante, of course, accepted.  After all, he wanted revenge against the beings that had destroyed his family.

❖   It was later that Dante realized that the demons Enzo defeated were incredibly weak, and that Enzo was a pretty piss poor demon hunter.  However, the man had all kinds of contacts, making it possible for Dante to learn how to fight from real hunters.  These different lessons are what resulted in his different fighting styles (Gunslinger, Swordmaster, Trickster, and Royalguard).

❖   Once Dante had learned how to hold his own in battle, Enzo sent Dante out during the night to get some experience and do a good deed or twelve.  Around midnight, Dante would be kicked out of wherever they were staying, and wasn't allowed to return until the sun had risen.  His goal was to locate, stalk, and quietly take care of any demons in the area.  It took him a few months before he got the 'quietly' part down.

❖   Enzo could not cook anything edible.  Fortunately for Dante, Enzo realized this as well, and could usually be counted on to order pizza.

❖   Though Enzo was a terrible fighter, he was a very shrewd business man.  He taught Dante how to run a profitable business, though Dante quickly threw most of those lessons out of the window.  He could never pick and choose among his customers like Enzo did.

❖   Dante found out Vergil was alive about three years before DMC3 (age 15), but he didn't meet him face to face until one year before the events in the Temen-ni-gru.  In those two years, he found himself settling into a cocky, arrogant, brash, perverted personality.

❖   Dante actually hero worshiped Vergil when they were kids, which is why he was so damn angry when he found out he was alive again.  All that time where it was pretty fucking clear that he looked up to his twin, Vergil doesn't even have enough decency to try and find him after Mom was killed?  At that point, Dante began to mentally separate the Vergil he knew compared to the Vergil he's confronted with, channeling all his anger and frustration at the 'new' Vergil.  The events of DMC3 eventually made him think otherwise.

❖   Dante really can't make up his mind about how he feels about Vergil; on one hand, he was a complete asshole utterly obsessed with the idea of power and was willing to do anything to get it.  But... he left behind Force Edge in the end, and they were still brothers, no matter how much Dante shunned his bloodline.

❖   Dante will never admit that the voice of reason in his head has lately begun to sound like his deceased twin.

❖   He'll also never admit that he still wears his half of the amulet, with Vergil's half tucked away in a pocket.

❖   Dante really doesn't mind that much when Lady sends him another bill for her purchases, he just can't stand it when she steals his pizza.

❖   Dante was actually the one who helped Lady set up her own business.  Sometimes, he hears about what she's up to and has second thoughts about the whole thing.  And later, he wonders why hell he doesn't get a cut of her profits.

❖   As a kid, Dante was tutored at home with his brother by his mother, and actually enjoyed reading back then.  He put that hobby to the side after his family was broken up, though lately he can occasionally be seen with a book in hand.

❖   Dante enjoys Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, and other writers.  However, he hates Jane Austen, Machiavelli, and Dante Alighieri with a passion, which is pretty ironic considering that his mother loved The Divine Comedy, his brother worshiped The Prince, and his father knew all three of those authors.

❖   Surprisingly, Dante likes kids, though he's a little uncertain of how to deal with them at times.  It's the teenagers he can't stand.

❖   Dante can't get drunk thanks to his demonic metabolism.  It was a bit of a downer when he went to a bar following the events in the Temen-ni-gru.

❖   However, it's his demonic immune system that prevents him from getting any minor illnesses.  He hasn't pit it against anything major yet though, and doesn't plan on it.  Getting poisoned was bad enough.

❖   There were a few times in the damn tower that Dante lost control of his Devil Trigger, and would wake up in some strange hallway covered in demon blood.  Later, he started to notice there was a part of him that would consider exactly how easy it would be to killslaughtermaim the fragile humans around him.  He swore right then and there to never take a human's life.

❖   It took some trial and error and one very close call (thank god Lady was around) before Dante figured out that the best way to keep his devil side in check was to go all out against stronger than normal demons while playing around with everyday ones.  After all, if he went all out and killed off the bastards too easily, his demon side would start getting angry, which would lead to BAD things.

❖   Dante thinks he could love Trish for her personality alone.  It's her looks that cause problems, because sometimes he can't figure out if he wants to kiss her or ask for her forgiveness.

❖   After meeting Trish, Dante experimented and discovered he is bi-sexual.  However, he hasn't met anyone else who has really interested him, which keeps him out of the market for a serious relationship.

❖   Once Trish moved into the shop, Dante was forced to learn how to cook.  His food is simple, but good (sandwiches, soup, meat, eggs, etc); that doesn't mean he enjoys cooking though (actually, he hates it, especially the clean up), and still believes pizza is the greatest food in the world.

❖   Somehow, someway, olives will always find their way onto any pizza he orders.  Dante firmly believes this is because of a minor curse a demon placed on him when he was younger, and since it hasn't done anything except annoy him at the worst of times (olives, malfunctioning, jukeboxes, etc), he just deals with it.

❖   The first instrument Dante learned how to play was the drums.  Eventually, he got bored of that and picked up both the acoustic and electric guitar, though occasionally he'll mess around with his first instrument.

❖   Dante cannot read sheet music.  He taught himself by ear (when he probably should have been doing something else).  Maybe that's why he sucks at Guitar Hero and Rockband, and Trish and Lady (who have no instrumental experience) kick ass.

❖   When Dante came face to boot face with Nero, his first thought was, "Either Dad wasn't as faithful as Mom made him out to be, or Vergil forgot to mention a very important detail about those years we were separated."

❖   His second thought was more of a reaction from his demon side.  It kept murmuring familyfriendallyfamily to him over and over again, making it a bit tricky to fight the kid.  Eventually, he decided he shouldn't tell Nero about that little instinct unless the kid asked first.

❖   That didn't stop him from asking Trish to try and keep an eye on Nero when she had the chance.  She just laughed and said something about mother hens.

❖   When Nero had fought him, Dante was amused.  Then the kid had started pummeling his face, severely tempting his devil side to stop holding back and show the whelp who was his better.  Dante had suppressed that idea and decided to let the kid have his fun.  He really hadn't expected to get pinned with his sword again.

Though the kid's shocked face when he'd pulled Rebellion out of his chest had been pretty damn hilarious.

❖   Dante isn't one to believe in true love or any of that romantic bullshit, but he had to admit the kid and his girlfriend made a pretty cute couple.

❖   Credo didn't seem like that bad of a guy; honorable, determined, a bit uptight and too serious, but nothing Dante couldn't handle.  It really was too bad Sanctus got his claws into him first.

❖   Dante can't help but think Sanctus and Arkham would have sort of gotten along in a creepy I'll-pretend-to-trust-you-to-further-my-goals way, though Mundus would have eaten them both as a snack.

❖   Before he shot Sanctus, Dante had thought that the bastard's blood would have been purple or black or some other color asides from red, thus proving to the world that their leader was a demon.  When all he saw was red blood, he couldn't help but wish he'd planned this out better.

❖   Despite how mouthy the Devil Arms get, or how much Dante yells at them, he still takes damn good care of them.  After all, they'd willingly offered their souls for him to use, and they hadn't turned on him yet.

❖   Dante is very knowledgeable about myths, legends, and all sorts of supernatural stories, especially ones that relate to his job.  He just thinks that his weapons are more effective against a Hell Prides then words, incense, or little charms.

❖   He will admit Holy Water is effective against pure blooded demons, though the effect is lessened in the face of human blood.  It usually just gives Dante a rash.

❖   Even though Dante has super-healing, he does not appreciate the repeated impalements.  Seriously, first his brother impaled him (though Vergil had always been a bit of a dramatic, so maybe it wasn't that out of character), then Lady (which had been traumatic and left him with a few nightmares of his mother coming back to life and killing him out of revenge), and then Nero (who... was a teenager.  Which goes under the dramatic category).  Was everyone out to get him?

❖   In actuality, healing bullet wounds (especially if the bullet is still inside his body) is more uncomfortable then healing slashes/bites/tears/etc.
