Things that go bump in the dark

Went to Slain’s castle in Cruden bay, outside Aberdeen, at the weekend with my friend Ruth. It was quite good fun clambering about on the granite rocks etc. However, I did manage to wound myself in the dungeon bit. Windy stairs went down to a room with no natural light and the torch on Ruth’s phone was the only break from impenetrable darkness. There was nothing there except the remnants of a ned’s picnic so we headed back up the stairs. Ruth went first and I followed, smacking my head on a low part of the ceiling as I neared the stairs.
I was OK, and my hair hid the cut which indicated my stupidity, but the jerk of the neck was more of a pain and is still a wee bit sore.
Given that this place was supposed to be one of the inspirations for Bram Stoker to write Dracula, I wasn’t too fond of having spilt blood there.....
