I'd recommend a hammer and both kinds of screwdrivers for a tool kit. I used mine at least once a semester, usually for trying to get my bed to the perfect height. Though i eventually learned that kicking the bed is quicker. Oh well, i'm sure it will still come in handy.
One other thing that is useful is a battery operated alarm clock. There is no real radio down in Southern MD, though that is changing, so a clock radio is somewhat useless. But the power goes out every once in a while. I don't really rememeber it going out much my senior year, so the problem may have been fixed once and for all, but just to be on the safe side, cause silly things happen.
The only other bit of advice I could impart is something that has already been expressed here, but bears repeating. think minimalist when packing.
As for the freshman living in upperclassmen housing thing, you will be fine. If you get there, and the people you are living with aren't fond of you as a freshman, join three clubs and you will make a million friends and never have to be in your suite. But I doubt that will be the case.
I'm sure this is way to much info, but I graduated this year, and had to impart this advice to Someone.
