So many great old rec lists but half of the fics are gone. Very sad to see the loss of our culture, when it's probably the original Fandom/slash. These stories are not just about our explorations of these characters, but also ourselves, our community, the new generations learning about the older ones, and seeing how society has changed - in the older stories, gay couples were often illegal or hidden and now we have mpreg lol. And even the evolution of how we share stories. There used to be physical zines. I know there are some lovely people who have passed, and their family tried to keep their writing online as they knew it was a beloved hobby and work of the deceased. I wouldn't want them to disappear. It's kind of cool to know that people who wrote some of the early trek stories are still remembered and their stories are still read and even referenced in academia. Trek/KS is such a foundational lore, leading to the thousands of fandoms and pairings around.
What happened to the KS library? I remember about 15 years ago, a lovely lady (Kathy Resch or Caroline?? Carspence@aol.com) used to have a large zine library of out of print KS (and maybe other fandoms) and would loan out the zines for the price of postage.
Is KiScon/Kathleener@aol.com still around?
(Specific fic search and rec lists that started my ruminations btw lol

We'll Lie in the Shadows of Them All On an away mission gone horribly wrong, Spock is forced to meld with Kirk, revealing a dark secret Jim had hoped to keep hidden. [NC-17; WIP] - anyone have a copy of this or her other stories? :( )
There is a great list of verizonhorizon"s stories... has there been a creation of a megaupload archive or something of all the deleted stories that people have found copies of? (Excluding the ones authors wanted removed, of course). Like islaofhope used to have a website. And there were tons of geocities etc websites. Plus, all the LJ/DW stories, or erased archives.
I know the story posting activities has decreased over the years, and thus this activity on this community as many moved away from LJ... but is there any community interest in gathering lost stories and maybe zines into a large zip file and uploading it to torrents or megaupload, as a 2024 community project? Possibly including those from original yahoo groups, podfics, videos, art, and especially gathering together the longer (1000+ words?) kinkmeme stories (many anonymous), which are difficult to read since they were psoted as comments. I think those ones will be especially forgotten and who knows how long the kinkmeme communities or even LJ will be around. Trek fandom has lasted aomce the 60s!
I think it's sort of our responsibility to make sure the future generations can read them, but it's actually mlre difficult for us because everything is digital. Originally, at least they multiple physical copies in zines spread around.
Also, we could possibly include stories that are currently accessible but that we want to make sure are backed up... not sure on that but it just occured to me.
Sorry my account is new, my old one of so many years, with so many bookmarks and content was deleted/unaccessible :(((
