your heart is beating faster; this time, we both know what we're after.

i'm "div-free" now. having handed in the final draft of my thesis last monday at 50 pages (with .79 inch margins; it would have been 55ish had i been able to fit my images into the standard 1 inch margins), i dicked around for a week (making presentations and doing other scholarly things, of course) and had my final meeting on friday morning. i brought a bottle of belgian trappist monk-made st. bernardus abt 12 beer and some pastries to the meeting, where we chatted about what i had learned during my experiment/paper, and then my committee enthusiastically passed me. it's so nice to have your committee notice that you worked your ass off all year, and i finally felt that the struggle was all worth it in the end. and then i rang the bell after consuming a number of very strong margaritas that afternoon. altogether a wonderful day.

i'm probably living with my friend davin in baltimore...he wanted to get a house, but couldn't afford it entirely by himself, so i'll pay the 700 or so i would have paid for a 1-bedroom place in the craptastic city, he'll cover the rest, and we'll have a beautiful house somewhere, with super-fast internet and all the fulfilled dreams you can fit into a suburban domicile.

so during the 4 weeks between graduation and starting work, i'm going to canada and hopefully making some furniture with my father - just like the guy who came on before bob villa back in the day. i've been hiking again, no longer needing to feel guilty about not writing my thesis (9 miles today! quite accidentally, though), and likewise it will feel fantastic to be DIY again, instead of buying things at absurd prices when i can make them myself.
