Geocaching FUN!

Well I have to say... I was very... closed minded when I first heard about Geocaching and the fun factor of it, BUT after spending Sunday with from-left-field and missus-geek we had a blast with it! So much fun in fact that we are now looking into a GPS Unit to purchase so we can play and also introduce my family to it as I know my little sister ( Read more... )

I'm sure Lionel can give you a few ideas as well.....we'll be needing a new one fairly soon, as I am sure my Dad will be hinting that he would like his back sometime in the next year or so :)
Could also look for last season's models on ebay, but I have no idea what those would be.

There aren't many in 'last years model' mode yet sadly - they haven't been widely avaiable for all that long.

Of the ones above I looked into both the Explorists [read some reviews on Amazon on em or a search] and the Garmen eTrex - and they were also both well recieved. It seems to be for the most part an 'apple/Pc' thing with Magellen/Garmen so beware - though as I said features to look for: water resisitant, computer hook up, map able, memory, POSSIBLY route tracing, and that should cover what you will need. You saw what we were able to do with our borrowed one and it is BARE bones basic show you how far to point kinda thing. lol.

Glad you guys enjoyed....there are a ZILLION around you so have fun!

The Magellan eXplorist 210 GPS, has everything except what looks like Route Tracing. Specifically, after comparing ALL of the Magellan's, the only one that looks like it has route tracing is the cheapest one for $90, but then it does not have all of the other features.

Perhaps I am looking at the wrong information? See if John? at Full Sail has any opinions on these models, specifically the Magellan eXplorist 210 GPS. I actually found it for $169.99, which makes it even more appealing :)

It looks good and would likely be a good start - it doesn't have a 'digital compass' though - so be aware of that and look to buy a decent compass as it is MUCH easier to shoot in a compass direction than work with the raw numbers on the heading screen. Just a opinion though...lol.

Oh so that one does not have the type of compass that yours had? The screen that we primarily used?
