Experiments in cooking

Well, the first isn't so much an experiment as it's the first time I've done it. The second was an experiment... and I'm not sure how it turned out, really.

Yesterday I made a dish that diamonddustshoe's made for me a few times. It's pretty simple -- just cook two packets of ramen, pan-fry some chicken on the side (I used olive oil for this), (mosly) drain the ramen when it's done, add some cream of mushroom soup and the chicken to the ramen and let it sit for a while. I also added one (but not both!) of the flavoring packets (creamy chicken for this batch) at this point, as well as some salt (since we had the reduced sodium cream of chicken to avoid some ingredients normally used in their soup) and some crushed red pepper.

Ate some of it standing around after eating, then put the rest up. I'm going to take it into school tomorrow for lunch/dinner. This turned out excellently.

Today I decided to fry a little bit more of the chicken (since I have more than enough to make another batch of the first meal) and scramble some eggs. While I was doing so, I decided to add maple syrup, but since I wasn't sure how it'd cook on the stove top, I just decided to put some into a bowl into which I'd end up dumping the eggs and chicken.

All of this successfully done, I tried it and... it was okay. First of all, I think I might have overcooked the chicken a little. Second of all, it would have been better to marinade the chicken in the syrup, but I didn't have time for that since it was already dinner time and I was being spur-of-the-moment about it. Third of all, after tasting the maple syruped egg/chicken mix, I decided to add some cinnamon because hey, it's already most of the way to french toast (if you replace the chicken with bread), but I wasn't used to the container of cinnamon that PD has and so I ended up dumping more than I wanted in there. Mixed it up best I could and then scooped out the chicken and egg into a new bowl to (hopefully) leave some of the cinnamon behind.

All in all, it wasn't bad. It's just that my execution left something to be desired.

Eh, at least I tried.
