Garage Day

Today c0demonkey, docryder and I worked hard on clearing out unwanted stuff from our garage. We have a yearly city cleanup day, with crews coming by on Monday to pickup whatever trash we put on our curb.

Boxes, boxes, and more empty boxes got kicked to the curb. A bunch of too small men's clothes ended up being donated, boxes of books- donated. Various small baby furniture was kicked to the curb and one of our neighbors picked it up for the use of one of his family members. I am glad as one was a good playpen that we hadn't used much so it was in good shape, but the thrift stores won't take them. We put out an old bed frame - solid wood but broken pegs, that I thought I could make into a loom, but never did and realized I never will. We also put out various metal stuff & an old boom box that got taken by the scavengers that roam the piles of trash looking for stuff to recycle for money. We kept the aluminum cans which I will take on Monday for money myself.

We also went through other boxes of stuff that I know I can sell them off, so that has been put aside. This includes a box of mom's really old patterns including some dated 1959! Another box had comics, which I thought I had sold off all of them years ago. I pulled some limited editions aside to see if those will sell on eBay, otherwise they will also get donated later. I also found my old 45 records, including one that was from an old high school gaming buddy's first "new age" band. He's now a pastor at a church in Visalia.

Three-plus hours later, we have actually cleared a full area of floor space, and rearranged the boxes we are keeping to consolidate our stuff better. At least half of those boxes will end up later being sold or donated later, so that will eventually leave us with room for things that matter, like a space for a train table for the kids, or a pressing table for me or maybe both? If we can create an attic space for the holiday boxes, maybe we can even pull in a car inside, tho that's a long term dream.

We still have a wall section left to go through. It got too hot to continue today, so we will tackle that tomorrow, along with our back patio stuff that also needs to be put into storage boxes for winter, or tossed to the curb. I'm just glad I am able to toss this stuff, with only a few items coming into the house for me to keep, like my old 45s, some costume jewelry, and Beethoven, my own stuffed animal with the wild hair who I missed (two other stuffed animals were donated).
