Yes, I've seen a couple of out of context comments on entries I've written elsewhere. If they don't get picked up, I may mention them to the community mods.
I understand the position. I have folk who are not and never will be LJ members, and who I have known in other groups and places for far longer than I've been an LJ member, who like to see what I've been up to on the sewing front. I'd hate to have to lock them out because of a few idiots.
Good luck in the fight! Why ARE some idiots driven to spoil things for others?
I have kept this blog open to allow family members & friends not on LJ to comment, although they rarely have. I don't want to block them either, but I figure screening comments and asking for a captcha reply isn't too big a deterrent for most folks. Going Friends Only would be a bigger block.
And I wish I knew what they got from their random spewings.
I've had way too much trouble with spam through my websites, and some really weird stuff with mistaken identity, that I don't really worry about it, It's all just locked down. And if I've never heard from/of the person before, they don't get friended. I've had to have had some sort of contact with them first, even if it's just looking through their blog (which, at this point, I think I've seen 90% of the sewing blogs on the web) seeing them on a list (or someone else's blog) or have seen them at some event I've been to.
I think in this blog, I will have to start making specific groups of folks with some of my posts, friends who respond and who I feel comfortable opening up to. My sewing blog I am trying to keep open and hate that spammers are messing that up.
