Faking the coronet hair braid (Tomyshenko's braid)

Remember that discussion way back when on Tomyshenko's braid and hair, and how to do that coronet braid and all that? Well, here's an interesting take from Janis Cortese, the lady who's site I just linked to in my previous comment.

And hsifeng, she gives info on how to fake hair braids, which sound like something the German ladies might have done, from ( Read more... )

I learned how to put my hair in a bun about a year and a half ago. It's really not as complicated as it seems, just takes a little bit of fiddling to get the hang of it. Takes roughly 4 well placed bobby pins to hold it secure enough to sleep on, braided then bunned is even better.

I don't know if you have a Sally Beauty Supply chain out there, but I found out last year that not all bobby pins are alike. They have some gold ones, made from some sort of steel or another, that my hair cannot mangle (as easily). Something like 3$ for 20-ish, but WELL worth the price. My hair overall is thin, but the strands themselves are thick and very heavy, so when I use the cheap normal pins they're one-time use for me, if that.

Another way to put it up and prevent harm to it is clips, I can take a picture of my absolute favorite style if you'd like, I found them at Wal-Mart a while back (need to get more).

My hair is just shy of waist length now (I cut two inches of damage off recently), and the only way I got it this long was to put it up everyday, and ignore it.

I saw Torrins video for the taping a few days ago (totally screams Italian to me), and it looks doable with practice, but I think I need another 6" to be able to get it all the way back to the start like she can.
