I am looking at period images to see what sorts of merchant stalls are shown by the painters of the time. The link that has this conveniently collected is at

And the idea I had in mind, where the front is raised a little higher than the back (like the
gallery pavillion mentioned yesterday), can be seen in the middle of this image (seen from a side-back angle, a few in a row).

So, it seems my idea is on track to be period. And at least I don't have to do dags on the canopy, as the coverings seem to be very plain. Plain is good. They are also light colored, so I should go for the natural canvas and enjoy the greater lightflow inside.
