A dummy is draped

Well, it took me starts, fits, and some overthinking (as normal), but my dress dummy is now draped in cotton drill, which will be my first sloper for this body shape, which will get turned into an effigy style pair of bodies (minus the darts currently in it).

I had to follow my draping book info from Connie Crawford (The Art of Fashion Draping), although what is unusual for me, I just looked at the pics, and forgot to read the captions and directions. I don't know what I was thinking, I think I was going from my swiss cheese memory of what Connie did a few years ago (not a good thing), and the other (few) times I've done draping (which were usually on a man's body), but I got there.

I will try to follow the info in Robert Doyle's "Waisted Efforts" book to get the sloper to a corset, and he's got the Dorothea corset in his book. With the printouts of the effigy corset, I should be able to get close enough to make a mockup, then go from there.

My two errors at this point is thinking I would do the draping using the drill, instead of basic muslin or leftover cotton. I might have enough drill left over to make up the final bodies, but using it for the draping was overkill. I also got a bit, enthusiastic, in my snipping, and snipped off a shoulder portion that I needed to keep. That was easily patched. Ah well, lessons learned.

But for right now, it is time to clean up the scraps of fabric on my sewing room floor, maybe take a pic or two, and head to bed. Zoo day tomorrow.
