Tudor shirt!

Woot! There is a shirt from the Henrician period in full array in the PoF4 book!! It is one of the images I had seen before, but I would not have guessed to its simple design. I so have to try it sometime.

Ah, the one with the "faked" underarm gusset? I'd seen pics of that a million times and never noticed. I haven't a clue why it's cut that way, I really can't see any advantage....
The only thing that comes to mind is to use the full width of fabric for MOST of the garment, and make it narrower across the shoulders? Hmmm...
The next one is way more my "style". I was totally thrilled to see that I'd guessed "right" from a few photos!

I don't know the advantage, but I want to learn what makes it feel different, if it does.

And I like the look of the second one, too. I just love this book!

One thing I can see is that you'd be rid of the selvedge at the shoulder seams, but I don't know that that's an advantage... it's very interesting, gonna have to try it out someday!
As for the second one, I was happy to find that about the only difference in my shirts and that one - (a) I put a facing at the front opening and (b) no side slits.
Since I'd posited the pattern just from looking at photos in a couple of museum books, I was pretty jazzed (ah, the Good Old Days pre-Internet!)
