Castle walls

Nov 13, 2008 20:07

So, on Wednesday afternoon, and again this evening, we've been painting the kids playroom. The idea is to do faux sandstone bricks, to sorta give a look of a castle wall. I've a few other ideas to decorate, but at least the walls are going well.

I had spent a few days earlier this week just taping up the walls earlier this week in a staggered brick pattern. It's a boring task, so I broke it down to small chunks. This will be the grout lines when we are done. Then yesterday, rwfranz came over, and after going by Home Depot to get a quart of white paint, and a few other things, we began working.

We are using old holey socks of Rob's that I kept in storage for such a use (reuse!) And then we are dabbing, streaking, rubbing and blending three close shades of golden yellow that I already had from when we were choosing colors for the living rooms. So, while they are close in colors which is making the walls not stand out too much, at least it is using up paint that otherwise would be tossed out (not something I want to do). If I do this again for another room, I will use colors with a little more contrast.

{hmmm... Rob is rubbing my sore feet right now... God, I love this man.}

Uhm, yeah,... where was I. Ok, so it is taking some time to get each section done, tho' Rob helped me out tonight. So I have one long wall, and one short wall close to done. Next up will be the archway & finishing the long wall, then moving furniture around so we can clean & tape up the next section. Hopefully we will be done in a few weeks, and I will post progress pics soon.
