What a day. I am thankful that I was allowed to sleep in a few extra hours. It seems that Maurelle also slept in, as she got up same time I did, which was around 10am. Oh, my, how good that felt. Cam got up around his usual, and Rob got up with him.

The morning was spent working on the few dishes we would take with us to the Super Party of Family at the Weber home (Rob's sister's home). First up was the baking of the low sugar apple cranberry pie (with Splenda). I had cut up the apples last night, and soaked them in apple juice and 7-up to help them from browning overnight. While I worked on that, the rice was soaking, as was the German sausage in beer (a family must) that Rob worked on. And then while Rob was playing with the kids, I prepped and fried (yes, fried) my Mom's usual contribution, which is fried won ton (with little chunks of meat inside). I keep the tradition in her memory, and because it is now the only time I get to enjoy this dish.

The family gathering was very large... 20-30 people, from a newborn of one month of age, to the very elderly. And it included Weber friends and their family, too. I think it was a bit too much for us two introverts, as we were a bit cranky when we got home. The food was great, and lots of it. Ham, turkey, two different yam dishes, cranberry sauce, and several pumpkin pies, which is why I did the apple cranberry instead. Alex has requested my dark pumpkin pie (made with molasses) for Xmas. I ate a little of most, and I ended up eating most everything, except for the mashed potatoes and gravy. That had just very little flavor to me, not to mention not much in nutrition. I really enjoyed the two yam dishes. And my pie was very good, and not too sweet, like so many of the other desserts were. I even avoided the gingerbread triffle, as I love triffle, and I knew it would be too sweet.

And now I am home, did my dishes and cleaned up the greasy mess. I am tired, the kids are in bed, and I can finally relax a bit. I will probably do more reading in my new book, starting from the beginning now, and if I am smart, taking some notes.

I do want to note some of the things I am thankful to God for.
I am thankful for my Family, my husband, my children, and those extended family that live near and far.
I am thankful for my friends, near and far, and this includes those on LJ and mailing lists that I've gotten to know.
I am thankful for my health, and how it is improving. Several people commented tonight on how good both Rob and both I looked, and how healthy. Some of the family are diabetic, so we chatted a bit on nutritional ways to improve the body.
I am thankful to be able to enjoy my costuming, and sewing passions. Not everyone can do what I know how to do, and so I am thankful that I still can. I am glad to see that Rob's Mom is getting back to the sewing she enjoys as well.
I am thankful I don't have to make my kids clothes out of grain sacks, but of nicer fabrics as I chose.
I am thankful for the home and life I have, and the life we have together.
I am thankful I still have one kitty who still is here. I miss my others very much.
I am thankful for the memories I have of my Mom and Dad. I wish I had better memories of good Thanksgivings with them, but those were sadly rare, but cherished. (long story).
I am thankful for a lot more, but these are the ones that come to mind tonight.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. And may God bless you and keep you safe.

holiday, personal
