Scholarly frustrations

Nov 21, 2007 01:18

I just have to say before I head off to bed... that it is very frustrating to me, to read a scholarly book on Henrician garments (my new book), and have a few "errors" for lack of a better word creep into the book, and hence the scholarship of the book. ( wherein I rant to get this off my chest, before heading to bed, lest it stew in my mind... )

book review, books, tudor

Dress in the Court of King Henry VIII by Maria Hayward. Just recently released at the end of October.

OK. I thought that might be it, but I wasn't sure.

So, do you recommend the book?

Yeah, at this point I would say yes, but with some reservations ( ... )

Maybe I"ll do an ILL of the book. It doesn't sound quite as useful (on the whole) as QEWU (which I don't have either) -- but still something nifty to at least look through.

Coming up with weird ideas isn't necessarily a Bad Thing -- but you gotta provide your evidence and your reasoning if you want folks to buy into your conclusions.

And a review like you just did is A Wonderful Thing!

Now that you've spent some time with the book ...

What do you think now?

I haven't had much time to sit and read the book... too busy with holiday stuff, and sewing the darn dress that never was worn for my daughter.

I hope to have more time soon... maybe.
