Yesterday was Cameron's birthday.
c0demonkey and I, along with
docryder took him to the Island Waterpark for an afternoon of fun in the sun and water. Cam loved the place, made friends, shot through a couple of bigger "rides", and had a grand time. His sister, not so much. She spent most of her time clinging to someone, only playing with some water fountains in the pool once she was over her fear, just to face plant into her guardian in a few seconds. After awhile she got more comfortable roaming around, knowing that someone was nearby. But water baby she isn't, at least not in a loud pool full of noisy kids and water spouts.
After a much needed nap, we took them to Home Town Buffet to join Grandma and some of Rob's family for dinner. While I had wanted to do a big dinner at a kid's place, I didn't start early enough to find one, and most places are great for older kids, and less so with toddlers. So, simple dinner, some cake and ice cream, and a number of presents were enjoyed. I have set a reminder for two months prior to next year's birthday so I can plan better.
Today was recovery of a sorts. I went shopping for food, and while the kids napped this afternoon, I finally got my scanner to work... using a completely different software set, that also came with the scanner. SilverFast is much better, although not as easy to use. But at least I don't get the blue images, and the scans, ohmygoodnesshowdetailedcanyouget!! I can easily print out an 8x10 image from a 35mm negative at higher than 300dpi, with pixels to spare! I am sure it is interpolating some of those pixels, but I am not positive, since I am just poking around right now trying to work it.
I've scanned a 2003 image from Kearney Faire of the king and queen for possible use in this year's flyer and poster. It is of them after repast, sitting and chatting. No food in the mouth, no drinks blocking the face. A decent shot, just, not very entertaining or typical. We shall see if Joyce ends up using it.
I did find out that in working with the negatives I have, I have to remove both sets of covering films from the negatives, including one side that is permanently attached. While I appreciate that they protect the emulsion from everything, it is annoying to move the one side and fold it down and away from the scanner bed area of the tray. But now that I know, I will be doing a bit more scanning from negatives now, once I've read the book and figure out what exactly I am supposed to be doing.
Well, off to enjoy some dinner that Rob cooked up. Burritos, yum!
