I don't know what's gotten into me, but I like the effects.
I guess I am just tired of living in a messy house that has so many things without a home. I've felt that way for a very long time, and so I guess with the new/old dresser that was moved into my bedroom yesterday, I am actually cleaning that room up, so that the dresser can be placed properly. I can then clean out my closet to move in some clothes into the dresser, and even have a place to put my things on the dresser. I think I also want a new small bookshelf or cabinet of some sort to sit on one side of the dresser, so I can put my small nicknacks up out of the kids' reach.
It's my Mom's old one, very nice, but about 20 years old. It is solid wood construction, not particle board. Sadly, it is too long to fit where I wanted it to at 76.25”. So I am moving a love seat and a book case, not to mention two empty cardboard barrels, and a pile of stuff, to move it against the outer wall, where it is still too big, but at least there it isn't sticking out in the way. This meant cleaning up near the outside door of grass that had found its way inside, cleaning sills, and baseboards, and even windows (inside only right now). I would let the blinds soak in the tub, but for all the stuff piled in the bathroom that blocks me.
I left the room to put the kids down for a nap with only three more shelves to clear and sort. I have a box of books to sell/donate, a pile of my books to keep, and a pile of Rob's books for him to sort out later. I am debating a nap, because even tho I went to bed last night at 10:30, my mind again wouldn't shut up for me to actually sleep until sometime after 2am. Thankfully, the kids let me sleep in a bit this morning, or I would be super cranky, instead of just a little cranky.
rwfranz will be coming by in the morning so I can move the bookcase out, then move the dresser from its sideways position, and into place, then move the bookcase over, and maybe, if I clear one of the bookshelves in the baby's room, move it into our room as well.
Pretty soon I am going to finish that, then move into my sewing room to sort and put away more sewing stuff as well. If I am lucky tonight, and get enough cleared, I may even rearrange my computer/desk setup for the new monitor and scanner. It will get done this week no matter what. I miss my scanner!!
Along all the lines of all this house cleaning, I have been reading the book “Getting It Done”. I hope to implement the simple idea, and have realized that when I am organized, I do follow some of the recommendations, just not all of them. I've not read this book before, but it really seems simple, yet efficient and easy to do. I won't know until I get into doing them.
In the mail today, I
got the maiolica bowl I won from
mc_cadieux on eBay. It is lovely, and will serve me well for feasts. If I hadn't just had this place paid and shipped, I would have bought the other one that ended up back on sale, as that one was made by her, and was very pretty. Sadly, I only needed one. I am thinking that someday I may try my hand at painting a bowl, although I want to get better at illuminating first.
I also received the book The Tudor Housewife by Alison Sim. Jane had mentioned her briefly at the TT workshop (Jane is mentioned in the credits), so I checked to see if there was a book I needed, and didn't have already. I have Alison's book on period pasttimes, the proper title escapes me. She also has a book on feasts, but since I am not into cooking, I didn't think it would be worth buying, although I might get it later from the library. It looks promising, although I won't be reading it until the other two books from the library are read.
Well, I've had a bit of a respite, so it's back into the trenches to brave the dust bunnies (they are worse than vorpal bunnies!), and get the last of the short stack of books. Then onto the sewing room. If no one hears from me later tonight, someone send in a search party, if they dare brave the dust bunnies...
