Interesting image.

Wandering through a mailing list I hadn't read in awhile, and it lead me to this image of a woman wearing a Tudor gown, c1536, in cloth of gold.

It visually seems to reinforce the thought I had about my gown back coming up over the shoulder like shown in Hunnisett's book, even tho this is really the first strong image to reinforce that idea. I only ended up doing so, over the directions in TTT, because I had made a mistake in the first version of the back, and the new back didn't line up with the front at the shoulders, so I just did what was done on the kirtle in shape (dropping the hidden cord for the gown). And nicely, the gown and the kirtle both stay on my shoulders pretty well. I think it gets tension from the back shaping, but I am not positive.

I only wish I knew more about where this image came from, the source, if there is something larger, what it was called, etc.
