Past the Point of No Return

Have been reading about the Nestorian schism recently. It is interesting that the Christian church presents itself as almost monolithic, when it actually very diverse in views and traditions.

It is also amazing how the world view of the church and her theology can be so profoundly affected by some people. Some would say, that the imprint left by Augustine of Hippo, is deeper than even the apostles. While probably well-intentioned, one has to wonder how much of this theology is tainted by his own cultural and emotional background (knowing that he had quite a past).

So, how sure are we that this brand of theology that is currently taught in churches today, corresponds to her true meaning?
