About Foreign Talent

You really have to hand it to MOM when it comes to spinning news on job-creation, and equality between foreign talents and locals. Firstly, they have happily placed permanent residents together with citizens in one category, to disguise the fact that many more jobs are going to non-locals. I wonder what statistics would be like, if the permanent residents were lumped with the foreigners. Wait! What if we also take out those foreigners who have since applied for citizenship? Oops!

Then, there was the report that many foreigners are on local packages. What they leave out, is that many of those on local packages are firstly on what is known as a local plus package, which usually means some added benefits over locals, such as housing or car. Even if there is no local plus, how many have their salary inflated compared with a local?

Apparently, many Indian and Chinese foreign talents become very unhappy after working for some time, because they then discover the pay disparity. They then fight for an equalization package, that makes them just as expensive as a local. So, I do wonder if the MOM's tactic of using foreign labour to keep Singapore competitive would work out in the long run? Oh yes, they do not need to be called up for reservist duties, do they? :P

As I have mentioned before, I have nothing against the foreigners. It is the MOM's statistics and their strategies that I question...

jobs, singapore, foreign talent, pay
