Implications of Buying Music Online

Apr 01, 2013 00:15

I am not too sure what it is that draws me to continue buying CDs. Perhaps I am still old-school, and like to put the piece of plastic into the player (not that I do much of that these days) or that I like having something tangible to hold on to when I part with my cash. However, the world out there is changing, with sales of physical media falling year after year, and online music sales slowly taking its place. At this rate, CDs could soon be a rarity.

Yet, we all know that we can easily loan a CD to a friend for a listen, or even sell it to a secondhand store and get some cash for it. You cannot really do it with online music, can you? No one really borrows mp3s, do they? How does one return it? Perhaps the younger generation don't even consider it, but just trade mp3s. One thing for certain, is that you will not be able to go to CashConverters and get money (however little) for your mp3s.

So perhaps the music industry is on to something here, or are they?
