Singtel Service

My company has a corporate arrangement with Singtel, so that all our mobiles are purchased from them, together with mobile plans. So the price for hardware is no different from what you would get as a member of the public, but I think we get a discount on the mobile plans. Anyway, now that I am back in Singapore, I promptly applied for a new handphone. After some feedback from colleagues, I was going to settle for another Nokia phone, due to the fact that I have always been used to their user interface. Ordered the N6280.

Firstly, the customer service agent at Singtel did not bother to inform anyone in my office that they had processed the order (neither does she answer her phone or reply to email), and were dispatching the SIM card and phone. Then they forgot to inform us about a S$60 increase in the price of the phone between last month and this month! Imagine that the N6280 was S$128 last month, and now S$188. Since when do prices of mobile phones go up from month to month? I thought they only held steady, or went down! To add to it, it is about a 50% increase in price. No special reason, no increased features. So, I ended up not taking the phone, and ordered a Sony Ericsson K750i instead. Hopefully, I won't find the phone too difficult to get used to.

As for Singtel, even though I still have some of the shares, I would ask my procurement department to switch providers at the earliest convenience. I do not think the company is getting such a great deal anyway...
