New Apple MacBooks

Apple has launched the new MacBook and MacBook Pro. Both spot the same look, with the MacBooks discarding their plastic cladding, for a cooler aluminium body. Both notebooks feature the multi-touch trackpad.

So, besides the obvious screen size and processor speed differences, what separates the MacBook from the MacBook Pro? Well, the MacBook Pro comes with a separate NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor, with its own memory, while the MacBook uses the integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256 MB SDRAM shared with main memory. The MacBook Pro also spots a FireWire 800 (IEEE1394) port and an ExpressCard slot, which the MacBook does not.

The base price MacBook comes in at $2088 with a 2.0GHz CPU, and $2588 for a 2.4GHz CPU. The MacBook Pro comes in at $3188 for the 2.4GHz CPU, and $3988 for the 2.53GHz CPU.
