The Road To Hell

We all know that the internet is an interesting place, with a wealth of information. However, many of us are not aware of the dangers lurking there. Yeah, we know about the people who plant viruses and worms, or those who phish for information, or even those who put on false identities on the internet. Yet, there are people more dangerous than that.

There are many websites on health and medicine out there, and tons of advice being dished out. Yet, how much of it is really dependable? Take for example the research published on a nutritional supplement's website, supporting the effectiveness of the product. How much of it is research that can be validated? How much of it is truly scientific?

Then, there are the peer-support websites, from medical issues to studies. Supposedly, these websites allow peers having similar problems or issues support or help each other. Yet, how many giving advice are truly qualified to give them? I say this, after reading potentially dangerous advice being given to a person who experienced a back injury. The problem is, the person giving the so-called advice is well-intentioned, but ill-informed.

Perhaps there are many lessons to be learnt from the internet, including those at face-value, and the lessons to reason out the validity of a claim or advice...

danger, internet, information
