The other morning while I was drinking my coffee and reading outside, a large beetle bounced off my hair and landed in the coffee. It looked approximately like the dreaded asian longhorned beetle,
http://www.uvm.edu/albeetle/but I wasn't too concerned, as a cousin told me there are similar native beetles. I rounded up a yogurt cup, by which time it had drowned, and collected it to freeze and take to an expert. Seeing nothing floating, after a moment's debate I finished the coffee except for some dregs.
It was a native whitespotted pine sawyer. I think the most obvious difference is its antennae weren't striped.
