Cold is bad, as is wind. Today I was willing to work inside in the dull office as it was single-digit cold with gusting wind, and fitful sunlight; this afternoon the sun is bright and I'm sure it's broken 15, so I'm itching to get out.
I have a small goal for next week, to hike to a backcountry lodge where my primary care PA, whom I also know socially, is doing a volunteer stint as host and expects to be bored during the day. In some circles it's embarassing to say I've never been there; I won't repeat the distance, which is trivial to a serious hiker, but a significant piece of excercise with enlarged feet (the trail will almost certainly be well-packed; if not, I probably won't get all the way).
We got 6 to 8" down in the valley (more on the hills); the storm was a nor'easter, so we did better than our usual rain-shadow problem. It fell over 18 hours or more, during which I for one shoveled several times, and then the wind came up; thus the vague estimate.
