One challenge is to update the style of the apartment from comfortable random chic to
intentional modern blend. We have a lot of mismatched furniture, which is nice because
of the different woods, but it looks haphazard. Minor repairs are helping us make existing things look better- revarnishing, repainting, and making all the lights functional. There is no overhead light in the entire apartment. There are a few lights with chains that sneak up the walls and hang down. I had to purchase new cord sets for a couple of them. We replaced a toilet seat, which went a long way in making the bathroom look cleaner. The old one was nasty. If this Comet trick works in removing the snake stains from the bowl, I will be very ecstatic. Apparently I need to turn the water off, flush the toilet so the water is out of the bowl, apply Comet and let it sit. Then scrub. The cost of a new toilet is around $100- more if you can't resist the new water saving ones...but a new seat + Comet = $12.

We have a lot of birch wood around here, that has been given to us. Who can say no to a wine table and dining set? A wild idea might be to paint the dining set glossy orange.
And perhaps a leaf stencil?

Even though I am in love with Parisian inspiration in home decor, I have to be careful
not to make the apartment too girly. Like reminding my mother not to give me fairy calendars anymore. Like not painting anything sky blue. Like questioning our purple towels if we paint the bathroom tile teal.

I HEART IKEA!
I purchased these last night:

Next, the sink needs to be refinished with epoxy. They have been REPAINTING it each time someone moves out. It is a rusty mess these days. Then, I am going to change the kitchen tile from brown to cobalt blue. I will repaint the vinyl floor in the kitchen and bathroom, and I don't know what to do about the colors in the bathroom. The tile is leaf green now, and I would rather it be ocean blues in there. As soon as the sink is epoxied, I am going to install this over the sink:
