drip drip drip goes the water

SO I planted some seeds over the last month: chiles and cucumbers and Herbs and eggplants.  They're still alive!!  The herbs, eggplants chiles will go in the planter with the sage and lavendar and butterfly bush and low water area.  This weekend, I built a little 8 foot box for the veggies, and planted some beets and carrot seeds (Tomatoes to come later).  We went to the hardware store and got all the little gadgets for putting in drip water.  32 carrots and 18 beets (potentially) with 1 little water sprayer/dripper per square foot.  Then I converted all the roses and peach tree to drip too.  We bought a cap for the tree drip line, but it hilariously rocketed off every time we tried to test it (Pro-tip: once you set up your drip, test it!  If you don't, you may have a geyser in your yard at 5AM).  The cludge was wiring it clamped.

I have some flower seeds started too.  It's so magical to see tiny little lives poking up from boring old dirt! It's addicting!
So now I feel like I'm a mini gardener.  I never really gardened before.  My grandmother used to grow a lovely garden every year in Ohio. My family always visited during summer, so I'd never seen the planting phase (plus, I'm pretty sure water is much less of an issue there), or eaten any of the fall harvest.  I didn't get to learn much from her.  It's neat to think I'm following in her footsteps a little bit.

Bonus running update: I'm up to 2 miles(ish) running on the treadmill once a week!!  Very exciting!  We've also done 2 >6 mile hikes without pain.  Things are looking good for mid-may backpacking!! WOOHOO!
