Hey, as some of you might know I'm staying in Japan for about five weeks during this summer, and I just wanted to share some Dragonball stuff I've come across while I'm here. This post was triggered by what I saw today, which was three of the dragonboxes (The movies, GT and part 1 of Z) Found at the Book Off in Shibuya.
Don't these (the original Japanese ones) go for like, a thousand dollars on eBay? Or at least hundreds? If I had any space left in my suitcase I would have bought them all, because they were not nearly as expensive here! (Book Off sells second hand books and dvds for really cheap) But sadly I don't have that much space, and even if it's relatively cheap it's still too expensive for a poor student like me. T.T They did have lots of the single dvds as well, so I just got one of those instead.
I also spotted some Dragonball themed earphones. If I remember correctly they came out as one of the many merchandise things for Kai, but I didn't think I'd actually find them!
I haven't really been to any big Japanese arcades, but at a little gamecenter in Ikebukuro they had the game "Taiko no Tatsujin", which is a game where you have to drum to the beat of popular Japanese songs. Two of the songs they had were Dragon Soul and Cha-la Head-cha-la! I only got to play the former, but it was pretty awesome to just stand there in a public arcade playing the drums to a Dragonball song! I still plan on going to a bigger arcade to see if they have Dragonball Heroes or whatever other game might be in arcades nowadays.
Then lastly, I went to the Mandarake in Ikebukuro, which is a store that sells lots of doujinshi. And they also had some Dragonball doujinshi! Not a whole lot compared to other popular series, but I did buy one volume of the famous "Head-cha-la" doujinshi series, and a random Cross Epoch (One Piece x Dragonball crossover) one. It's the two in the upper left corner of the picture. ^^
Other than this, there's some gashapon (mini figurines) here and there, and some random Kai posters and pictures. And in pretty much any bookstore, everywhere, you can find several editions of the manga. (I've been trying to collect the Kanzenban, 'cause they're so expensive to import) But since Kai is pretty much over in Japan, I was surprised to find as much stuff as I did! I'll post again if I come across any other interesting Dragonball related things. ^^
