If you are a smart and well adusted person, the landmark forum will seem ridiculous. I went to an introduction and I couldn't believe the idiotic shit they said to me

Is this what happens when I leave you on your own for three weeks?! Dear oh dear...porridge_snoodMay 30 2006, 21:06:32 UTC
I only heard about all this today when I coincidentally bumped into Rowena; she sounded bemused and mistrustful of the whole thing. I'm intrigued.
I don't know much about this forum thing so I don't think I'm qualified to judge it. Rowena said that the organisers have been prosecuted for causing mental anguish to their ex-followers, however, and that doesn't sound happy... Is Rowena right in saying that this forum has no overt religious agenda? Because from the things I've heard about it so far, it sounds a little like the Promisekeepers and AA and all the other self-help things that actually teach people that they have no control over their own lives, no responsibility for their actions as a result, only God can save them, etc...
'In life there are things you KNOW... and things you KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW... but what about the things you DON'T KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW?? Landmark will teach you those things... but if you DON'T take landmark, you WON'T learn those things!' (that last bit = pure Christian logic)
Hopefully I'm being too cynical and this forum really is a secular way to help people out. It'd certainly be cool if it really is the only program out there with no religious or monetary agenda...
I agree with you saying Smam will probably be alright. Hell, I know people who used to be Exclusive Brethren who are alright now. The human is an extraordinarily resilient creature.

Well for starters this statement:
'In life there are things you KNOW... and things you KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW... but what about the things you DON'T KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW?? Landmark will teach you those things... but if you DON'T take landmark, you WON'T learn those things!'
Is wrong, or at least it was when I did it. What they actually said was:
'In life there are things you KNOW... and things you KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW... but what about the things you DON'T KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW?? All education and things like that are based on increasing knowledge I.E. turning what you know you don't know into what you know.
Then they basically just said that what you needed to do was keep yourself open to what you don't know you don't know. They never said that they could teach you this or that if you didn't take the course you wouldn't learn this.
Also one of the main points of the whole thing is saying that you are the only one who can take control of your life, you are completely in control and you shape everything that happens to you in one way or another. They never mentioned 'God' once, and they definitely didn't say that only 'God' could save you. You all know how completely religiously skeptical I am and I would have jumped on that immediately.
To tell the truth I can say that I haven't been brain washed until the cow's come home. All that people are going to say back is that I wouldn't know if I was or not. All I know is that if I have been brainwashed then my brain is all sparkly and clean and I feel empowered, motivated, able to get anything that I want out of life, not to mention happy for the first time in about 4 months.

Glad to hear that you're not brainwashed and that the forum promotes individual responsibility! Always a good thing.
Well, last night I baked a chocolate dessert and the presence of fumes in the air a few hours later nearly killed Gynn, so now I'm in the flatmate dog house...and no work at my work so once again I have to find a new job...apart from the geh stuff I'm pretty good, still enjoying being back in NZ.
