*looks around furtively*
The Village
Love is kind of a strong word, but I admit I really liked this movie a lot and I don't think I've met another person that didn't think it was utter shit.
Poor M. Night has had the impossible task of living up to The Sixth Sense, which was a great film with a very effective twist. Unfortunately, I think he tried too hard to manufacture twists in his later films, so if you're looking, you'll see them. As a moviegoer, it's nice to be made to feel clever sometimes, but if you feel you are more clever than the screenwriter, it is not a good thing.
But, for me, that's not what this one was about. I only saw the film once, but remember that I liked the set-up and the love story. When we all sit around and rank the M. Night films, I rank this one high. Everyone stares at me incredulously. I argue, "Really! It has some redeeming characteristics! It's not like that horrible piece of shit Lady in the Water!" They disagree. :S
