A few thoughts on the current chapter of Between the Sand and Stone.
Just a reminder that this story is NOT DH-compliant. It’s not EWE, either. It completely ignores DH all together, and very happily so!
Also, a few readers have asked about others Hermione could have gone to for help, especially other canon characters and Hogwarts. From my view of canon, Hermione did not have many close friends. She barely tolerated the Patil twins and Lavender, as well as Luna. In fact, although I have written several stories where Luna and Hermione are close, I don’t believe that canon supports that idea. Simply put, Luna drove Hermione nuts.
Could Hermione have sought help at Hogwarts? I suppose, although I don’t think that’s likely either; very few people would seek out a former teacher when in need. Someone asked about Minerva. In canon, they don't seem particularly close on personal level, although you could make a case for it. Really, we can make a case for anything since canon is entirely in Harry's POV. ;) But anyway, in my opinion, while I think Hermione is fond of her teachers at Hogwarts, I don't think she views them as friends.
In any event, it’s all moot since Hermione went to Snape for one reason and one reason only: She made a promise to her dying husband that he was the only person from whom she would seek help if the need arose. She will honor that promise, no matter what. Just as Snape will honor his. It's really as simple as that.
Hope that helps explain my thinking.
We are over the major hurdle for this story, I believe. Again, I make no promises on how quickly chapters will go up, although I sincerely hope the next wait will not be nearly as long. Thank you for your patience and sticking with me. I hope it will be worth the wait in the end. :)
