Absolutely gorgeous. The piece itself in the movie is beautiful but with added cello by Yo Yo Ma......*is relaxed*

Oh yeah, as if Morricone's music isn't sad enough as it is *g* I love chello, though (it's so melancholic) and it suits the music beautifully, but of course I prefer the original :P

interesting,I don't find Morricone's music sad at all, just beautiful and serene, same with cello. silverlukas also commented when I posted Dreamcatcher song by Secret Garden that it was sad which I didn't feel at all...must check my sadness factor*g*

It's because it's so beautiful it comes off as incredibly melancholic to me. It hurts to listen to. I've felt like that with his music all since childhood. When it's been a while between hearing and I put it my chest hurts and I usually cry. But after having listened to a few numbers I sort of get "numb" to the effect.

The same thing happened with this Huun Huur Tu song. The first time I heard it I completely broke down crying. It was like I was mentally or emotionally unprepared for the impact it would have on me, it just released something inside of me. Afterwards the feeling was completely gone and I can't relieve it now. But I can always relive it with Morricone when a good time has passed since last I heard it ( ... )

silverlukas - that's me! *beams*

I'd call this music majestic and uplifting, and only a very little sad. I'm now listening to other versions in youtube-- I should see the Mission finally :P

And I also pronounced Brothers in Arms to be sad - you find it not sad too? What about Every night in my dreams I see you I feel you? XD XD

Btw if you received weeks ago e-mail notice stating "VixenMulder is now following you in Twitter" that was me too. (not that it matters)

*pretends she didn't just jump in*
if you ask me(not that you did,but oh well;) ) it reminds me on old westerns so I'd sooner call it rather nostalgic in that fond memory of old movies.:P
For sad,I think there should be some (sad) lyrics to go with the music to make an impact on me...like Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel or other war music...yes,Brother in Arms too.:P

Well it's your journal, feel free to jump in *g*

Really? So sad notes or tones in music doesn't affect you? Or maybe you can't hear them :) Martin says he can't hear if things are in the key of major or minor, where I'm kinda obsessed with music in the key of minor :)

It's melancholic in itself, and well the movie is very slow paced and low key itself. I love Leone's spaghetti westerns (the only western movies I like)

Violin definitely affects me (like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLK5OWU2YGw Schindler's list theme by my fav violin player) and celtic music(thinking here of Loreena McKennit's voice f.e.) but dunno,it doesn't make me feel sad, perhaps subdued a bit,I'm sure there were times when I felt a piece to be so beautiful I could get teary eyed but those definitely weren't tears of sadness.:P
but I think I only ever feel real sadness if the music with the lyrics combined produce this effect.

:) Yeah, this is sadder, but still sounds more majestic than melancholic to me. We had the very same difference in opinion about the Huun Huur Tu song too. But I understand what you mean, and there are certainly some Moriconne's pieces I find sad too - especially this one and to a lesser extent (because it's intense and mysterious) this - Man With Harmonica.
