ouch (long)

I guess it's a good thing I've got a helmet. I would have knocked myself out or had some sort of concussion at least. I think my neck is sprained, because it hurts bad when I try and move it. Mabye I would have broken it if I didnt have a helmet. ugh... I had hit the jump many times earlier and I was gettin comfy on it. It was a kind of mid-sized jump at around 30 feet. I was gonna try some switch take off's and get used to them. I've done several switch-180's off of jumps on the 15-20 foot range so i didnt think the backwards takeoff would be a big deal. The jump shot me up a lot higher than I expected and I leaned too far forward. Get the picture? So i did half of a switch front flip and I rotated about 90 degrees. I saw the landing and knew it was gonna be hard. I kind of grunted and tensed up right as I hit. It was probably around a 20 foot fall, but I did as I always do... I jumped right back up like it was nothing and skiied off to the side. My goggles were around my neck and they were broken pretty good. Pat came down and told me I looked like shit and I said I was fine even though it hurt like a mother. No more switch takeoffs for me this year.

I ended the day off on a good note though. I wasnt about to let that landing ruin my whole day. I got to the top of that jump and attempted my first backflip of the season. Last year I tried almost a dozen times and never actually landed one so I was even more nervous. I laid it back a lot more and didn't tuck myself into a ball like I usually do. I was able to see my landing a lot sooner and I landed it pretty nicely. o man, I was so happy. I think I finally got the trick to doing them now. Just lay it out big and have no fear.

If my neck feels a little better(or even if it dosn't) I think I'll go to Windham. If the jump are nice I'll probably throw a handful of backflips so I can really get the hang of it. I really need to get my 5's down nice tho too.

If I dont kill myself Friday(which I wont do) I'll try and visit Jen at Jiminy. Hopefully Saturday will be nice.

If I'm alive and willing to ski on Sunday I'll be at the Maui North Big Air Competition at Whiteface. All I need to do to take home gold is throw out a stylish 1080. haha. I think a clean 720 with a nice grab will be enough for top 5. That's assuming that I actually land it. If I get top 10 I'll be really happy but I'm really just there for the experience anyway I guess. That will be another one of my seasons goals knocked off of the list. I think I still have to try a corked 720 and a lincoln loop.

I'm gonna try my hardest to go all out this weekend and make it to Sunday's competition. I think over spring break Pat and I are going to visit Slason in Vermont. He's about 30 minutes from Okemo and I know we would have an awesome time. Sometime over spring break I should get my new skis in so I can mess around with time for a little while at least. I got myself a pair of LINE 153's for $242 on ebay. Not a bad deal at all.

Ski season will probably wind down in the weeks following spring break and I'll have to get back to a more nomal life. I'll need to put a little more work into school and then RELAX for a while. Give myself a little time to recover before kayak season swings into gear. Then instead of worring about injuries I'll have to worry about drowning, and i'm not going to drown.
