Could Arakawa have something in store for Roy and Riza?
There were a lot of things that I liked about the end of Fullmetal Alchemist, but there were a few things that I did not care for. Part of me was happy that so many people were made whole (or were perhaps on their way to being close to whole), but part of me felt that all of this happiness was contrary to the general tone of the manga. After all, Hughes had been killed off early in the story. I would have cried my eyes out if Al hadn't gotten his body back, but it would have been hugely dramatic. Also, I didn't expect (or even want) Mustang to regain his sight. Being blind would have been a challenge for him, but I think that he would have been up to it after navigating a few bumps on the road. I can imagine him revising his goals and learning to live a productive life. And, this thought brings me to...
*WHY* did Arakawa 86 any Royai from chapter 108? Roy and Riza are very popular FMA characters. In the manga, their story lines are interesting and important to the overall flow of the Elrics' journey. Chapter 107 (and the few preceding ones) had some pretty strongly implied Royai. The thought had entered my mind (a very wishful thought): Maybe, just maybe, Arakawa was saving all of that Roy and Riza stuff for another project.
I haven't seen anyone else mention anything about this, and I know that Arakawa has been working on Hero Tales. Therefore, I kept this thought to myself. But then, today, I was complaining to a friend about the scarcity of Roy and Riza moments in chapter 108, and she said, "Well, maybe the author is planning to feature them in another work." So, the stray thought was seconded.
I would love it so much if Arakawa would create a Roy and Riza manga!
