I'm...not a Reid fan. I mean I was at first, but it's hard to explain, it's a mix of him being *too* perfect and what the fans do to him, [to the Reid Fanatics] it's either too much Reid or too little Reid, and honestly I don't care one way or another as long as the show's good. And obviously I hate that they have a hate on for Gideon. How someone can hate Jason is beyond me.
I heard that you were given a heads up about me :) Not sure if you were told about my headcanon for Jason, but I'd be happy to share it with you when I have time, which sadly isn't right now. I work random shifts and am busy outside of work, but occasionally I do get some serious computer time, and I'd be thrilled to discuss Gideon (and Sarah! She has almost as much canon as he does!) with you.
Back to Reid, there are so many bad Reid fics. Partly why I gave up on fics (among lack of time, too much fluff, etc. I have a friend who's a great writer, so that's where the lack of time comes in, but yeah, you probably get it).
Reid was using at the time, so that can't be judged. I'm not trying to justify him, and don't get me started on how bad they portrayed his drug use, but yeah.
SAUL. HOMELAND. WATCH IT.
I do admit that I started watching Homeland for Mandy, yes. I saw the first ep and....fell in love with the show. I haven't seen the most recent ep yet (I tend to run up to four days behind in Homeland, two in CM, but I do spoilers, so feel free). This week I know we'll be watching CM on Thurs since my roommate and I are both off. Homeland I'll watch tomorrow in my short window between an appointment and work...those are the two shows that I follow actively other than Doctor Who and Torchwood (those are sporadic, they don't air at set times or set amounts of episodes per year).
I watched S1-S2, and then the episodes afterwards were a bit meh in my mind, I missed a lot of them, so my Reid love probably haven't been as eroded by over exposure as yours have. I definitely don't like him remotely as much as Gideon though, he's pretty, but there is just an instinctive "Oh god, he's too young, throw him back" response.
How someone can hate Jason is beyond me.
Somehow, they were accidentally watching a mirrorverse version of CM? Or they hated Princess Bride because they have no souls? (Srsly, if you haven't yet, watch Princess Bride, best movie in the universe.)
Srsly though, someone fessed up on tumblr that they hate Gideon because of all the creeper!Gideon fics, sigh. Dude is a total woobie, and Reid is absolutely no bambi, especially in season 1. People say he was stronger in Season Seven, and I disagree - this is only true if you compare him to earlier seasons, /post Tobias Hankel/. S7 Reid thought about doing drugs again when he thought Emily was dead, because S7 Reid was more haunted than S1 Reid, likewise with Hotch - I don't believe that tragedies always make you stronger, sometimes you just collect nightmares, like Gideon. Pre-Revelations Reid was very very strong, quirky, but /he didn't care/, especially when you compare him to PTSD!Gideon (and my impression was, in addition to losing the Six Agents, many people in Gideon's life couldn't approach him post-Boston when he withdrew into depression, so social powerwise - Reid had more because Reid was all Gideon had at that point, while Reid does have friends outside the BAU (When we saw Gideon with Sarah in Fisher King, there was a sense of "haven't seen you in a while", and while the BAU party together, Gideon was alone getting a painting. His trains and bird paintings are solitary hobbies)..

I could totally write it if it was Hotch/Reid, because Hotch was the worse 4th pirate ever. Or maybe I can write it if it's a part of Reid's weird therapy while working out his issues post Tobias Hankel (since the team was watching him on camera during the incident)
Oh, I definitely don't blame Reid for it, but well, while the drug explained some jitteriness, it was his method of madness that was Gideon like.
I only have Basic Cable, and I don't think Canada have Showtime. :(
