STEVEN MOFFAT OWNS MY SOUL AGAIN

Apr 24, 2011 00:33

After nine hours of internet silence, I finally watched The Impossible Astronaut.

I baked a TARDIS cake and failed to take pictures, though it was not terribly impressive so it isn't as if the internet missed out on anything awesome. It did taste unusually good for from-a-box cake, though. Oh well; it's the thought that counts.

20 people crammed into a tiny room and we laughed and screamed and shushed each-other and I think I made at least three new friends tonight.
I really hope this cut works. Because this bit is the SPOILERS OMG RUN AWAY section.

OH BLOODY WHAT STEVEN MOFFAT ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME. I rather think you are.

Things wot I loved:
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT like WOAH. I love Amy and Rory together until the end of time, because they are very much perfect. It's so nice to see them being comfortable with each other. I love watching

RIVER. FUCKING. SONG.  Oh my goodness. She just gets more amazing. All the OH HI SEX JOKES between her and the Doctor were hilarious (helped by the part where I was in a room full of college students but still) and they get along so well. The chemistry, oh yes, is so spot on. Not knowing who River really is seems to get on the Doctor's nerves but she's just so compelling. Alex Kingston really knocked the part about River and the Doctor travelling in opposite directions out of the park. It's something I hadn't really considered and I think it adds a lovely dimension to her attitude. Every time she says 'spoilers' it's a little sad, because from her point of view it's like he's forgotten one of their adventures.

That one guy! Badger! His character's name is really long and I forgot it already so I've just been calling him Badger. Apparently he's on Leverage? Guess I should actually watch that show. Any way he's great. I love it when people accept the TARDIS. He seems to understand the Rule of Cool.

THE SILENCE OH AAAAAARGH. Although now that they talk they're less scary somehow. The suits remind me of The Gentlemen from Hush, except they don't have mouths. And the tunnels that go through the entire planet? They've been here forever controlling our lives? Oh, Smoffat, you may have outdone yourself this time.

WTF AMY'S PREGNANT? OKAY... Not that she and Rory wouldn't produce amazing babies. It's just kind of an ... okay ... right.
Not sure how I feel about this 1100-year-old Doctor dying and keeping it from 900-year-old one thing as a framing device. I was looking forward to something a little less overt I guess. I  don't know. I'm sure it will be carried off perfectly.

Also? The Legs, The Nose, and Mrs. Robinson. OH YES.

Cut over now? Shiny.

On an unrelated though equally creepifying note, I need to read House of Leaves now. I read an incredibly creepy and engrossing crossover with Star Trek this afternoon, and between that and THE HAHA-YOU-FORGET-US-WHEN-YOU-LOOK-AWAY Silence (highlight to read) I am thoroughly wigged. That can go on my summer project list.

Is it next Saturday yet?

college, house of leaves, doctor who, with friends like these...
