Activists?

I see on the news and read a fair bit about people fighting for one cause or another. It is great to see that there are people who will fight for equality, for the environment, for animals and for those who cannot fight for themselves. The fact that the issues are having to be highlighted and fought for however, well at first causes concern, and then... annoyance.

Should it be necessary to fight for the planet? To decide who should be taxed or who should be named responsible for the damage caused to the planet? When really; as a part of the human race, the only species on the planet capable of affecting the changes needed to maintain the planets ecosystems - how about instead of arguing, we just look after the planet, not just because we are capable, but because it is just a good idea?

Then I turn on the TV and see the fight for gay marriage, gay equality - this in itself seems to have a pretty easy solution. If you don't agree with gay marriage, then don't marry someone who is the same sex as you. People will always be uncomfortable with either what they don't like about themselves, or they have had little understanding in, but when someone morally or religiously objects to an "issue" then historically speaking, forcing agreement and making what should be complete non-issues a focal point has never really been successful in full acceptance. Does it actually change the ability of a person to do anything based on the sex of the person they take to bed?

Equality and global support - on the basis is a brilliant concept, and equality itself is an entitlement. Respect however should be earned, so to confuse a lack of respect with inequality can lead to various other issues. An example: working with people and seeing complaints against managers regarding fairness that their errors were raised - though there should be consistency which is most definitely is something management needs to enforce, but does it mean that in a workplace it is ok to make mistakes if everyone is making the same mistake? I think the definition of a mistake then needs to be looked at from an individual perspective and whether they are proud to own that and be ok with with their work ethic on that basis.

Global support, raising money to feed, clothe and provide water for people - again another great example of what humanity can achieve, but in the same way as giving a child a present, does the gift really emphasise the value. Teaching is different to supporting so imparting knowledge to grow crops, bore for water, generate resources to provide for themselves ongoing is a far better utilisation of funds. But the need to be the saviour and to have others know how much an individual is giving or reaping a benefit from an act of goodwill is not exactly in the spirit of giving. I mean really - claiming a tax deduction on a donation? isnt that the opposite of what a donation is all about - I am giving money, so I should pay less tax because I am a better person?

Issues should be faced, should be fought for - but why are these "issues" even issues? Human nature trying to overcome human nature. So can there ever truly be a winner?
