Almost Cut My Hair

"I've been getting some complaints about your hair."

I know my hair is long. Maybe it's too long. At the end of a bad day, my hair glares at people. But I never thought I'd get talked to about it by the boss.

Of course he didn't tell me to cut it. Just that there had been complaints. He didn't say from who. Now I've become terribly resentful and all I can think is that I'll have to cut my hair to keep my house, which is asinine.

I used to think my company was pretty progressive and hip and a fun place to work. Politically, it's a very liberal place to work. Shockingly so considering the industry. Now I just tend to see it as a slightly more lefty version of corporate groupthink.

After they renovated the office interior, they put up the same 30 year old art in tarnished frames. Some of the prints had stains. I suggested a wall for employee art as we have numerous employees who have shown in Gallery nights. I would have gladly donated a print of my own to get that crap off the walls, and even said so. I was told that the company wanted a 'consistent appearance' that matched the wall colors, and so they would stick with the old, busted up art.

This is exactly the kind of thing that pulls at my latent iconoclastic tendencies. I don't play well with others. Pick your cliche. I should just be an adult about it. Now I'm wondering what kind of cut is acceptable without screaming "sellout" - and wondering how long I have to decide before I get another talking to.
