A further sign of my fall from grace at work: Adding insult to injury, not only did I get stuck writing about restroom design, but the boss refused to allow me the following lead:
If we judge prospective employees by their attire, it's not a stretch to say that we judge a building by its restroom.
He would prefer a boring "this is complicated, we'll explain it to you" approach, which is the crutch relied upon far too often when editing the leads of freelancers.
Nearly everyone else views the lead I drafted as some sort of minor truth, but he is apparently too uptight to want to use a metaphor that deals with attire and restrooms. Here's a thought: Let's actually have some fun and think differently about how we write these things for a change.
