I'm a special case. As an empath, if my emotions run too high, I run greater risk of assimilation in the presence of especially powerful Festum. [take a look, Mad, see the red flecks in his eyes?] These are a sign of how close I was to losing myself.
The theory I have going right now is that while the Festum are typically of a hive mind, those who can attain singularity from the hive become some sort of leader figure. I've met one, and heard of another.
The one I never met actually gave one of our own the tools to fight the one I met on even grounds. Then the one I met, Idun, ATE the other one, or so the story goes.
So the one left is the reason why the Festum as a whole want to kill us all. [Yup. Ain't that fun?]
See, that's the thing: I don't know if anything about the festum with individuality I just said is actually correct outside of the facts like Idun's name and what happened when we encountered it. Hell, destroying Idun could make it worse for all I know. It's not like being nearly assimilated actually teaches you anything about the Festum as a whole.
