Escaping into your own shell, returning to the outside world - and then escaping again.

Is this the existence you have chosen for yourself?

[ Pauses. ] Like you're any better.

Do you prefer to exist within society's bounds, or outside of it as a singular individual?

What is this, Philosophy 101? Why do you care so much all of a sudden?

emorangerblack August 21 2011, 22:12:37 UTC
I always care. The answer is what defines you as a person.

[Leans against the wall, as Devon is prone to doing.]

Humans are social beings by nature. They exist in a society created of immaterial, but rigid rules. But some choose to throw the system away and set up their own one. Or alternatively, it is the system that threw them away.

In other words, if you exist outside the society, you are either a beast - or a god.

[ Thinking... and then, quietly: ]

I'm not sure where I exist.

You must always choose on your place in life. Whatever your choice may be - it is always preferable to letting others decide for you.

I don't let others decide! [ Huffs. ] I'm just Asuka. Isn't that enough?

emorangerblack August 21 2011, 22:42:58 UTC
Good enough? Probably.

[It's almost like if "good enough" meant "barely passable" in Devon's dictionary.]

Have you seen the third pilot?

[ Whatever. Asuka's used to this from Devon, and surprisingly allows this. ] That moron? Whaddya wanna see him for?

emorangerblack August 21 2011, 22:47:27 UTC
I have already seen him. Unlike you or Shinji, he is fundamentally at peace with the world.

And yet...

[Does not finish.]

stupidshinji August 21 2011, 23:57:43 UTC
...and yet he's a complete moron?

You can at least see what is wrong with his view on life, can't you?

Reply

stupidshinji August 22 2011, 01:49:56 UTC
I wouldn't know. I haven't bothered talking to him.

emorangerblack August 22 2011, 12:46:59 UTC
He is happy with what is given to him by others, without even questioning it.

Like I said, he's just a waste of time.
